What are the advantages of a magnetic knife block?
There are many different knife blocks for sale. The most well-known variant is the knife block with slits. Nowadays, a magnetic knife block is increasingly seen on kitchen worktops, but what are the advantages of such a magnetic knife block? We have listed some of the advantages of this type of knife block.
It is more hygienic
Kitchen knives and hygiene go hand in hand. To prepare a meal, you want to work with a clean knife. With traditional knife blocks, where the knife is kept in the slot, filth can accumulate. Cleaning these slots properly is almost impossible, which means that in time your kitchen knife will no longer be as hygienic as you think. With a magnetic knife block you do not have this problem. The kitchen knives are not hidden away and therefore filth never accumulates.
The right knife at your fingertips
Thanks to the strong magnet in the magnetic knife block, you no longer need to hide a chef’s knife. You place the knife safely with the blade on the knife block. The kitchen knives are therefore not hidden in a slot, but can be seen in all their glory. This means that you will not easily misplace the wrong knife. A robust magnetic knife block also looks great on any kitchen worktop or kitchen island.
Sufficient storage space
As said, magnetic knife blocks are available in many shapes, sizes and materials. It is a matter of taste which one you like, but always consider how many knives you want to store with the magnetic knife block. There are knife holders for up to 10 different knives, but with most variations you can assume that there is room for at least 5 large chef’s knives. A three-piece knife set fits perfectly on the knife block, along with Santo knives and Damascus knives, for example. An additional advantage is that your cutlery drawer will have more room for other kitchen utensils.
Keeps every kitchen knife sharp
Do you ever wonder why your beautiful Damascus knife or Santoku knife becomes dull so quickly? It could have something to do with the way you store your kitchen knife. Is it stored in a cutlery drawer? If so, there is a good chance that the sharp edge of the blade will rub against another knife or kitchen utensil, resulting in loss of sharpness over time. Then you will need a whetstone again to keep the knife sharp. With a magnetic knife block you do not have this problem. The blade hangs securely on the block and does not collide with other knives. The positive result is that your blade stays sharp for longer.
